Kids love bright colors! It brings a cheerful and bright aura that lifts up their mood and make them smile. Most kids, especially those who are younger are into bright colors because they can perceive it more than the pale shades. Psychologists even suggest bright colors on children’s bedrooms and classrooms as it can serve as stimuli for a more positive mood and behavior and more inspired learning.  Studies reveal that a lack of stimuli can lead to loss of concentration, anxiousness, and sleepiness that can affect a child’s output and behavior.

And where can we add more colors for kids to appreciate? What about their food?  Especially their desserts. Kids love desserts and giving it a colorful appeal can really be appetizing.  From rainbow desserts and treats to colorful pastrieshere are some fun servings for the kids.

Goodie goodie gumdrops

No-bake mini-desserts that are easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons gelatin
  • 1 cup of cold water
  • 1 ½ cups boiling water
  • 4 cups of sugar
  • ÂĽ teaspoon flavored extract
  • 1-2 drops food colorings (4 colors of your choice) 
  • Extra sugar for coating 

Instructions:

  • Using a large pot, soften the gelatin in cold water for about 5 minutes.  Add in boiling water until the gelatin dissolves.
  • Add in the sugar and bring to a boil over medium heat for 25 minutes while stirring constantly.
  • Pour mixture in 4 different pans.
  • Add ÂĽ teaspoon flavored extract and 1-2 drops of food color in each pan. Stir until well-blended.
  • Cover the pan and chill overnight.
  • Cut the gelatin into Âľ inch cubes with a knife dipped in hot water.  Separate the cubes and roll in sugar. 
  • Leave at room temperature to crystallize.

Trix Krispies

Colorful treats that are easy to make.

Ingredients:

  • 400 grams of mini  marshmallows
  • 10 cups multi-color cereal
  • ÂĽ cup butter

Instructions:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, put the butter and marshmallows and microwave for about 2 to 3 minutes until melted. Stir until smooth.
  • Mix the cereal and quickly stir until combined.
  • Pour in a 9” x 13” greased pan and slightly press with a spoon for an even layer.
  • Allow to cool and cut into squares.

Breakfast cereal fudge

A rainbow snack recipe that is also good as dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 5 ounces evaporated milk
  • 8 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 7 ounces marshmallows
  • 12 ounces white chocolate chips
  • 2 cups of breakfast cereal

Instructions:

  • Line the cake pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Combine evaporated milk, butter, and sugar in a saucepan. Stir constantly and bring mixture to a boil over medium heat. Remove from the heat.
  • Add in the marshmallows and white chocolate chips to the mixture. Blend until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is well combined.
  • Add in 1 ½  cups your favorite breakfast cereal. Pour the mixture in the pan. Sprinkle the remaining cereal on top. Lightly press the cereal.
  • Let it cool completely. Remove from the pan and cut into squares of the desired size.

Rainbow gelatin cubes

This is an easy rainbow treats for the kids.

Ingredients:

  • 4 packages assorted flavored gelatin (about 3 ounces each)
  • 6 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
  • 5 Âľ cups boiling water
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • ÂĽ cup cold water

Instructions:

  • In a bowl, combine a package of flavor gelatin and a package of unflavored gelatin.  Sit in a cup of boiling water to dissolve. Pour in a 13” x 9” sprayed dish. Refrigerate until set for about 20 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, stir condensed milk and a cup of boiling water.  
  • In another bowl, pour cold water and sprinkle two envelopes of unflavored gelatin. Let it stand for a minute. Add in Âľ cup of boiling water. Add this to the milk mixture.
  • Spoon a cup of the creamy gelatin mixture over the first flavored gelatin layer. Refrigerate for 25 minutes.
  • Repeat from the beginning of the recipe, alternating flavored gelatin with creamy gelatin layers. Always chill each layer to set but not firm before spooning the next layer. 
  • Make final flavored gelatin. Spoon over top. Refrigerate for an hour after completing the last layer.
  • Cut into 1-inch squares.

A multi-colored dessert that is fun to make for kids.

Ingredients:

  • 1 box of white cake mix
  • 1 container whipped white frosting
  • 1 egg
  • 1 stick of butter
  • Food colorings
  • Rainbow pareils sprinkles

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix cake mix, egg, and butter on medium speed until the batter is well-combined.
  • Gently stir in the sprinkles with the use of a spoon. Form into 1-inch balls and place in a cookie sheet. Lightly press the dough down about halfway with the use of a bottom of a cup. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool.
  • Divide the frosting into 3 or 4, depending on the number of colors you like. Put each color frosting in a baggie, snip the corner off for piping.
  • Pipe frosting on the bottom of one half and gently press another half on top of it. Repeat until all the halves are frosted and topped with another half. 

Rainbow popcorn balls

Not just for desserts, this colorful treat is good as snacks for those who love sweets and popcorn.

  • Ingredients:
  • Âľ cup light syrup
  • ÂĽ cup butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup marshmallows
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • â…› teaspoon salt
  • 20 cups popped popcorn

Food coloring of your choice

Instructions:

  • Using a small pot, combine corn syrup, butter, and sugar, marshmallows, water, vanilla and salt over medium heat. Keep stirring and bring to a boil.
  • Separate the popcorn into bowls, depending on how many colors you like to make, a bowl for each color.
  • Carefully pour hot syrup into the bowls of popcorn. Distribute it equally to all the bowls. 
  • Add 2 drops of food coloring in each bowl.
  • Stir the popcorn in the bowl with the use of a spoon. Be sure that every piece is covered with colored syrup. Use different spoons in each bowls so as not to mix colors.
  • Wear food-safe plastic gloves with non-stick spray and shape the popcorn into balls, in the size you desire. You have to do these before the syrup cools off.
