What Does the Scripture Say About Babies?

What Does the Scripture Say About Babies?

The Bible says that babies are wonderful blessings from God. And parents would agree because babies complete their lives. Babies make their lives more colorful and meaningful.

What does the Scripture say about babies? Let’s look at some passages from the Bible that talk about babies:

-“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life, he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshipped the Lord there. (1 Samuel 1:27-28)

Hannah, the wife of Elkanah, was sad because she didn’t have children. She prayed to God and vowed that she would dedicate her child to Him if she would be allowed to bear a son. God answered her prayer. She gave birth to Samuel and fulfilled her promise to God.

This Scripture tells us that the Lord hears our prayers. Many parents wished for a child, and the Lord has answered their prayers. This also reminds us that we have to fulfill our promises to God. More often than not, we make promises to the Lord when we pray for something. We promise to give back to Him. So once our prayers have been answered, we should not forget our vows. And if we haven’t gotten our wish yet, we should never stop praying and we should continue to be faithful.

-“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice, she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’” (Luke 1:41-42)

Elizabeth’s baby moved when Mary greeted her. Elizabeth also recognized that Mary’s baby was not ordinary. Mary was carrying the baby Jesus in her womb.

This Scripture doesn’t just describe the time when Elizabeth and Mary, who were both pregnant, met. It also tells us that the baby inside a woman’s womb is alive and can respond to voices and sounds. This is because a fetus will already start to develop his or her ability to hear while inside the womb. Mothers are encouraged to talk to their babies as the mother’s voice may just be the most significant sound that the baby will hear and recognize. Parents are also encouraged to play music and sing lullabies to their babies that can help in their development while inside their mothers’ womb.

-“A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come, but when the baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time.” (John 16:21)

One of the most painful experiences in a woman’s life is giving birth. Pain during labor may vary from woman to woman. It may also vary from pregnancy to pregnancy. Some women may not feel intense pain, while others may find the pain almost unbearable. But the moment a mother gives birth to the baby and hears the baby cry, all the pain and suffering is replaced by joy and happiness.

That is how much love the mother has for her baby. She will bear all the anguish and pain during the 9 months of pregnancy and on the day she delivers the baby. She will make all the sacrifices because she loves her child.

Once the baby is born, she will feel extremely happy to see her child and to know that her baby will complete her life. Children are the parents’ greatest joy; nothing makes a parent happier than knowing that their child is alive, happy and healthy.

-“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Although this Scripture isn’t specifically about babies, the teachings that it brings can be applied to the little ones as well. Even before babies are born, God already has plans for them. It doesn’t mean that the child’s life will be all about success, blessings and good things. In life, problems come and bad things happen. And even though we don’t want our kids to experience these negative things, they will and they would have to face and overcome them. What God wants us to know is that challenges and hardships are part of life, and we have to put our trust in Him. The Lord will not give us something that we can’t handle. He wants us to learn from these experiences and become stronger.

Moreover, He tells us that there is hope, and children can dream of a good future as it is already a part of His plans. As parents, we should be excited about the future. We should be there for our children and support them and love them so that they can have a bright tomorrow.

-“Children are a gift from God, they are His reward.” (Psalm 127:3)

Children are blessings from God. They might just be the biggest blessings that parents could ever hope for. The Lord gives us children not as a punishment, but as a reward. As such, we have to treasure them. We have to take good care of our kids, the same way we take care of an inheritance that we received. We have to provide them with their needs, feed them, bathe them, give them clothes and provide shelter. We have to do our best to try to protect them from harm. As parents, we also have to make sure our children are educated so that they will become wise.

This Scripture also reminds us that we should never forget to thank God for His blessings.

While there aren’t a lot of Scripture written about babies, these verses remind us that babies are blessings that make our lives happier and more complete. These little ones have innocent hearts and smiles that make our world a more colorful place to live in. We should appreciate and accept them as God’s wonderful blessings and treat them as our biggest treasures.
