The excitement of having a child is not only being felt by expectant parents themselves but by the couple’s parents too, their siblings, and even their children if it is not the couple’s first time. Along with the excitement is also the feeling of nervousness and anxiety ranging from the thought of giving birth, choosing a perfect uncommon name, baby foods, proper nutrition and supplements and the responsibilities that come along in raising a child taking into account the child’s well- being and growth throughout the formative years.

Choosing your baby name

Nowadays, most parents are inclined to choose uncommon names for their baby boy or girl. Some even go to the extent of choosing an eccentric name for their child just to sound unique, so-to-speak. Others, however, opt to adopt just a simple yet popular name that comes trendy to them.

More often than not, parents draw inspiration from their favorite actors, movie or cartoon characters, fruit trees, flowers, spices, birds, families, and friends in choosing their baby name.

Finding a suitable baby name

Finding a baby name seems easy in this time and age considering the existence of modern technologies, where one can do searching for some pretty names. And yet, when that time comes the choosing process for even both parents become a tad harder and confusing.

With the many arrays of beautiful and unique names on the internet, is it no surprise why parents are having a hard time choosing. But then, come to think of it, parents never give up and their efforts to finding a suitable name for their babies always pay off.

Finding a baby name can be indeed tedious for parents but this process of selecting usually comes with deep joy and happiness as they run through different names and they experience more happiness as they eliminate other names in favor of the one that comes close to heart.

The reasons why parents choose uncommon names

A lot of the uncommon or unusual names can be either biblical or mythological. But don’t get me wrong as some of the names from these sources have become familiar classics. So what used to be out of the ordinary names have now become very common due to their massive use.

Apparently, parents prefer naming their child after biblical or mythological heroes to trendy ones, choosing uncommon names from biblical or mythological epic heroes whose attitude and character have become the symbols for courage, tenacity, perseverance, beauty, confidence, patience, eloquence, loyalty, and many more that these have become associated to their personality and become household names throughout the centuries.

This also comes with parents secretly hoping that their child would grow up as good as the biblical hero he/she was named after.

Advantage of giving uncommon names

According to study, parents before were not really fond of using uncommon names but as time evolved more parents now prefer the use of uncommon names as they want their child’s name to really be unique and stand out in schools and among peers.

The pioneers of this practice were reportedly celebrities who wanted their child to be different from the rest. With this development in baby naming and with more and more parents today trying to be unique, the use of commonly popular names has reportedly lessened.

Popular names VS. uncommon names

Our folks say that our names represent what and who we are and even our social standing in society. Although it may not be 100% true, there may be some truth to it.

Therefore, a classic popular name may sweetly sound home easily. But because this moniker belongs to a huge part of the population in the world, it becomes boring and dull.

But because it sounds familiar, a name recall for people you just met will become easy. On the other hand, when you are with people with the same moniker as you are, the use of your surname or last name will be very relevant.

Meanwhile, using uncommon names may be an expression of parents’ sense of individualism and uniqueness and come with the advantage of their child standing out in the crowd, expert says the extreme practice of this can be a manifestation of being too self-absorb or vain.

And most of the time, people especially the elderly will have difficulty in remembering these names.

Final thoughts

It is alright to choose either way. It is never wrong to choose names for your child whether it is the classic biblical, the common popular, or the unusual unique names that could ever exist in the whole wide world.

Whatever names parents choose will always be the right one as such affectionate action is surely glazed with so much love and awe for the arrival of their child that nobody has the right to question about.

The arrival of a child can spell a difference in the lives of a couple. Yes, truth to be told, the coming of a child or their mere presence in the couple’s life may renew a lost spark that has long died and enlivened their humdrum life, if that is the way life for them.
